Nov.5 to Witness the U.S. Presidential Election

The 60th U.S. presidential election is set to take place on November 5, with the winner between Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris set to assume office at the White House in January 2025.

From assassination attempts on Trump to President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the race, allowing Vice President Harris to step in, a series of dramatic twists have unfolded in the months leading up to the election. If Trump is elected, he would become the first president since 1892 to win a non-consecutive term and would surpass Biden as the oldest president in U.S. history to take office.

The original nominee, 82-year-old President Biden, made history as the first president to win his party’s primary and then decide not to run for re-election. Vice President Kamala Harris stepped in as his successor; if Harris wins, she will become the first female and Asian American (with an Indian-born mother) president of the United States.

Projections indicate that the 2024 federal election may become the most expensive in history. Bloomberg reported on November 1 that 11,000 political groups have already spent $14.7 billion on the 2024 U.S. election campaign. According to the nonprofit OpenSecrets, which tracks political funding, Elon Musk has donated a total of $119 million to Trump’s 2024 campaign cycle as of this week.
